Tomorrow is my first 1st day of school! I am so eager for my students to arrive – I’ve been envisioning this day since I was 5 years old – so I can’t believe that it’s finally here! All of my students already know each other (except for one new student), so I’m interested in seeing how the pre-existing classroom dynamics play out.
On the schedule for tomorrow: my students will be choosing their own cubbies, we’ll work together on developing our classroom rules and expectations, we’ll make our time capsule for the 100th day of school, the students will read the classroom job postings and fill out their job applications, we’ll read and discuss The Name Jar, and my students will start an art project I found in Rethinking Schools, where they will draw a picture of what they look like on the outside on one side of a piece of a paper and write words that describe things you couldn’t know just by looking at them on the other.
It’s going to be a busy, exciting, and (hopefully) fun day!
What grade? Best of luck- Let us know how it goes!
I’m teaching second grade. Thank you!
Good luck tomorrow!
How did it go?
